Ireland wasn’t a country I’d always dreamt of visiting, but it ended up surprising me in all the best ways. My journey began in Belfast, a city that doesn’t scream for attention but quietly wins you over. It’s a bit slower, sure, but the locals are full of heart and humour. One night, I found myself deep in conversation at a cosy pub with locals who treated me like a regular. That kind of easy connection isn’t something you find everywhere. Belfast feels like a cheerful grandfather: a bit old-school, full of stories, and always ready for a pint. It instantly became one of my favourite cities in the UK (yes, even more than London, and that’s saying something).
From Belfast, I ventured out to the Giant’s Causeway, a surreal, almost mythical natural wonder that really lives up to the hype. The jagged rocks, the crashing waves, and the overcast skies made it feel like I’d stepped into a Celtic legend. I also did the whole Game of Thrones geek-out while I was up there, because let’s be honest, Northern Ireland is full of epic backdrops. Travelling solo gave me the freedom to explore at my own pace, with the kind of quiet awe that only really hits you when you’re standing at the edge of something that’s been around for millions of years.
After a few days, I made my way to Dublin, where things picked up in energy. This city has a pulse. Between the live music in Temple Bar, the buzz of young travellers, and the history tucked into every corner, Dublin is electric. It’s also a bit of a solo traveller’s playground since it's easy to meet people, easy to get around, and full of places that make you want to slow down and take it all in. I spent hours wandering through Trinity College, journalling in cafés, and even caught a few late-night pub sessions that turned into long, meaningful conversations.
As a base, Dublin also makes it incredibly easy to explore more of the country. I took a day trip out to the Cliffs of Moher, one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever laid eyes on. Standing there, wind in my face, cliffs dropping off into the sea, I genuinely felt small in the best possible way. Ireland does that to you. Times like these reminds you how wild and ancient the world really is. It’s not just beautiful, it’s grounding.
Ireland has something for every kind of traveller. It might not be the cheapest destination (especially Dublin), but it's absolutely worth every euro. And if you're travelling solo and working remotely like I was, you’ll find that it has a way of making you feel right at home.
